About me and my story with english. (with encouraging end)
Hola - Oi - Hello - Ciao - Salut!
Hi all, I'm Melina, I'm 19 years old and I live in Argentina. I really like meeting new people, if you want, add me =)
It's funny, well, I wrote a bit about me in comments about others blogs but now, I have to write my own, and I don't want to be repetitive, uhmmm
Well, my affair with english started when I was in high school 3 years ago, everyone in my house used to tell me to go to an english institute like my brothers (my older brother studied 7 years and my middle brother 3 years at an english institute)Their reasons were: "It's useful!; It will help you in the future; It is the universal language; Come on, don't you want to understand that music that you listen to?, etc"
Anyway, I didn't want to go, but one day they got me tired and I went, the teacher told me that I should go to a classroom with adults and I loved it! I was the youngest but I didn't care, I was patient with my mates, I really like the thing that, people who are 30 till 50 or 60 years went to learn a language at their age! It's amazing, you are never late to learn a language, of course, is not the same, but... sure the effort will worth!
Surprisedly my marks got high at school and I studied just 2 years there, because, I finished the high school and it was time to moved to another city and study the career that I was dreaming with... no, it wasn't english, it was graphic design =) but... here comes the sad part, the career that I had dreamed with for about 4 years it wasn't for me, I didn't feel it like "mine", you know, it's hard to explain... well, I passed the semester, I passed the exams, but, I decided to leave it, it was hard (expectations, hopes, money, proud parents). (Sorry if I just get away from the main subject, but, sometimes I can't stop to write lol, I bet you've noticed that)
After all of that, I started to spend my time in internet... looking some solace for my indefinite future, and What did I find?... awesome new friends, culture, languages, countries, travels. That year, the last year precisely, I decided to come back to study, in 3 months or so I studied portuguese, another english course, and an accountant assistant course. It was hard at first... uhmm a new language, similar to spanish but pretty different at the same time; confusing pronunciation; words that you have to write in a different way that you are used to... but with the practice I could deal with all of that, and I learnt a lot just in a few months!. (Sorry if you are sleeping now lol =P)
And what's going on now? Tomorrow I will start a kind of pre-course to get in to the Languages University, I want to study English Translator and English Teacher. Everybody tells me that is really really hard if you have a low level in english, that a lot people try to get in, a few just get in and a bunch of them finish the career. Well... I think that depends...it depends the personality, the ability, the environment that is around you.
The truth is... I'm confident about myself, but I'm really nervous too, the "pre-course" is qualifying, which means that if you wont pass it, you wont get in, in contrast to another universities, this one is different.
Another failed career will be hard, but... the fate will decide... of course, I will give as much as I can. Anyway, Besides that I have some plans for the year, I will study the second level of portuguese, maybe start french and if the cows can fly I will travel to USA lol.
And that is, I hope to help someone who is reading this and is in the same situation than I was, STUDY ENGLISH! lol I'm kidding, but it is really useful to learn another language different that your native idiom *thumbs up*
Just follow your emotions, do what you like and enjoy it, and if you fail, get up and start again! It doesn't matter what other people think about it, just listen constructive advices but be yourself and live your life by your own way.-

Submitted by Jonika on Tue, 02/05/2008 - 17:17.Well... I think the best way is talk or write a lot, it doesn't matter if you do it wrong at first... I did that, I started to chat with people who speak english in the net, and I really improved it, besides to go to english classes, I think you learn a lot talking and making mistakes with people who speak the language, and a good tool, is internet.
Another good things is read... read articles or anything in english and look up the words that you don't understand... that improves your vocabulary too.
