California's New Cell Phone Law
Yesterday was the first day that California's new cell phone law was enforced. The law says that drivers are prohibited from talking on their cell phone and holding the phone to their ear while driving. Drivers are allowed to buy a small hands-free device that attaches to the ear and talk on that while driving.
This law was set up to help reduce the accident rate. In my opinion, it isn't the fact that the driver is holding the cell phone to their ear that makes them distracted, but the fact that they are talking to someone and they are paying attention to the conversation with that person and not to what is happening on the road.
