John: This barbeque is great! Have you tried the chicken?
Dan: Yeah I tried it. It was great! The steak too!
John: Oh yeah, the steak was really tasty and tender.
Dan: Yes, it was so good that I went back for seconds.
John: I should have done that! Hey, have you seen Barbara?
Dan: Who’s Barbara?
John: Nick’s wife. Her name is Barbara but everyone calls her Barbie.
Dan: Oh…yes, I saw her in the kitchen. I think she was making an apple pie.
John: An apple pie? The typical American food, huh?
Dan: Yeah, everyone knows that apple pie is the most famous American dessert.
John: Absolutely.
Dan: What are the most typical types of food that people make at a Barbeque?
John: Well of course….hamburgers and hotdogs.
And then there is steak, chicken, or fish.
A lot of people make baked beans and cole slaw too.
Dan: And don’t forget the chips and soda.
John: Oh of course!
In the first line John said “This barbeque is great! Have you tried the chicken?” A barbeque is where someone cooks food on a grill outside.
Then Dan says. “Yeah I tried it. It was great! The steak too!” Steak is meat which comes from a cow.
After John said, “Oh yeah, the steak was really tasty and tender.” This means that it tasted very good and the meat was very soft and easy to chew or eat.
Next Dan said, “Yes, it was so good that I went back for seconds.” Seconds is what we say when we fill our plate again with food.
Later in the dialogue Dan says , “Oh…yes, I saw her in the kitchen. I think she was making an apple pie.” An apple pie is a very famous, sweet desert that is served in the United States.
Later John says, “A lot of people make baked beans and cole slaw too.” Baked beans are a traditional food served at barbeques. Cole slaw is also very common and is cabbage with a special dressing.
