Podcast 12 Dialogue in a Grocery Store

Hello! This is Missy from Southern California. Welcome to Blabbinit.

We are going to have a short dialogue today between a customer and a cashier at a grocery store. A grocery store is a place where people go to buy food. A customer is the person who is buying the food and the cashier is the person who is working and accepting the money for the store.

Here goes:

Hello how are you today ma’am?

I am fine, and you?

Very good thanks. The total for your food is $69.98

Okay, I would like to pay by ATM card.

That is fine. Please slide your card through the machine, enter your PIN, and the purchase will be processed.

Okay. Thank you.

When people are in the grocery store, typically the cashier will greet them using sir or ma’am. Sir is used for a man and ma’am is used for a woman. It is normal to say this to a person that you are unfamiliar with.

The cashier will ring up all of the food and then tell the customer the total cost. Ring up is to scan each item.

The customer usually has 4 options for payment. They can pay by cash, check, ATM, or credit card. In the previous situation the customer wanted to pay by ATM. ATM stands for automated teller machine. Once the person slides their card through the machine, they must enter their PIN or their password. PIN stands for personal identification number. When someone uses their ATM card, the money for the transaction is automatically deducted from their bank account.

Thank you and see you all next time. This is Missy from Blabbinit.com. That’s www.blabbinit.com. Bye bye.
