The podcast today will be about Mexican food. Actually this is one of my favorite topics because I love Mexican food. It is very delicious and being that I live in southern California, there is a lot of Mexican influence here.
We have plenty of Mexican food restaurants to choose from. There are the "americanized" fast food restaurants to the very authentic restaurants. I think the authentic restaurants taste much better. You have to go to an area where there are many Spanish speakers in order to find the best food.
They have many things on the menu. Some of which I have no idea what they are and sometimes I am afraid to find out. I don't want to eat anything too interesting such as cow brain or intestines.
Normally I order carne asada, which is steak-like beef seasoned perfectly. I like to eat that with some tortillas, beans and rice.
Mexican food typically comes with spicy salsa. I think most Mexicans are accustomed to the spice because they grew up eating it but other people who are not used to it might think that it is a little too spicy.
I once had an experience where I used to work. I went into my work one day. I worked at a pizza place. There was a man named Manuel who used to always come in and drink beer. He would be there for hours and hours. He used to bring some hot chili peppers which he would put in his mouth and eat while he drank his beer.
That day he had a whole cup full of chili peppers and he said to me, "Hey, try one of these Missy."
I said, "Okay." I took the chili and I placed it in my mouth. I took it out much faster than I had put it in because immediately my mouth was on fire. I ran to the back of the pizza place and took a cup and filled it with soda. I tried to make the burning go away but my mouth still felt like it was on fire. I tried water, food, many things and nothing seemed to put out the burning sensation.
Manuel then told me that I needed tomato. I ate some tomato which seemed to cool my mouth a bit. I couldn't believe the burning! It was a very interesting experience for me and I couldn't believe that he could just put those in his mouth without even blinking! Amazing.
The pain went away after about an hour and my mouth was okay. But I promise that one of those will never touch my mouth again.
Besides the chili peppers, Mexican food is very delicious. I suggest that you all try it. You will love it!
