Hello and welcome to Blabbinit. This is Missy. I appreciate that you have decided to take some time out of your day to listen to our podcast.

Today I was able to watch a play. It was very cute. It was actually a musical so the actors sing, dance and act.

To be able to make a musical there are a lot of things which must be done.

First, a play or musical must be chosen. After it is chosen then they usually do auditions. During auditions, actors can "try out" for different parts in the play. "Try out" means that they go in front of the directors of the play to try to see if they will be selected for the part.

The people who are the directors have to select the best actor or actress for the part. Sometimes they chose the best actor but with a musical, the actor also has to have a good singing voice.

After the actors have been selected, they get scripts, which are the words that they will say. The script also describes where the actors will move on the stage.

The actors will practice their lines that they will say. I am sure they have to memorize all of the words at home and also during the rehearsals.

There is also a set that has to be built specifically for each play. A set is all of the props, or the things that are used in the play which also includes background.

Often, the props are made by people who are in the play if it is not a professional play. In professional plays there are people who work specifically to design sets for plays. The directors will contract people to do this job and have the set ready for rehearsals and performance.

If the play is a musical, the songs must also be rehearsed. Perhaps a music teacher may come to teach the actors how to sing the songs and exactly which key to sing them in.

If the play requires dancing, a dance choreographer may be hired to teach the actors the dance movements. Their job would also be to make sure that the movement and dances of everyone on the stage fits together and is well-balanced.

Dancing and singing add more interest in a play. It keeps it exciting for the audience and it also makes the stage look very attractive.

On opening night, typically everyone who is in the play or who has been involved in it is nervous. It is the first time that they will be performing their show in front of a live audience. Most of them are praying that they won't forget their lines or have extreme stage fright. Stage fright is when someone gets on the stage and then sees all the people and gets scared to the point where they can't move or remember their lines. Usually this doesn't happen. but it is everyone's fear.

After opening night, the play is usually performed several other times and it gets easier each time as the actors are more used to the live audience and are more confident about their lines.

In the end, the audience is happy and the actors are proud for what they have done. It is a long process but the end result is very rewarding for everyone.
