Today I would like to go over a few phrases using the words "up" and "down". Sometimes the little words are the most complicated. The more phrases you memorize, the easier it will be.

Here goes.....
- When the television is not loud enough you may say....
Turn up the volume.

- If it is too loud, you may say....
Turn down the volume.

- If someone is downstairs and you want them to go up, you would say....
Go up the stairs.

- If you want them to come down, say....
Come down the stairs.

- If the light is too dim, you say....
Turn up the light.

- If the light is too bright, you can say....
Turn down the light.

-If you are talking about something increasing in quality, you can say....
Go up in quality.

-If it decreases in quality, you can say....
Go down in quality.

- If you want to talk about something increasing a level, you say....
Go up a level.

- If it is decreasing a level, you say....
Go down a level.

Of course these phrases can be used in future and past tenses as well.
