Podcast 9 Pronunciation: boss - bus, truck - track, cold - called

Hello everybody and welcome to Blabbinit.com. This is Missy from southern California. Today, I would like to make a podcast on pronunciation. We have found that there are many words that sound similar that are often difficult for people, who are learning English, to pronounce.

I have selected 3 sets of words for you to practice today.

The first set of words are:
boss b-o-s-s and bus b-u-s
boss o-o-o boss and bus u-u-u bus

Boss is the person who is in charge at work.
For example: My boss told me I am a good worker.

Bus is a large vehicle that can carry many people.
For example: The bus took all of the students to the beach.

The next set of words are:
truck t-r-u-c-k and track t-r-a-c-k
truck u-u-u truck and track a-a-a track
truck and track

Truck is a large vehicle used to carry heavy objects.
For example: The truck brought all of the boxes to their new house.

Track has many meanings. One meaning is the parallel rails of a railroad.
For example: The train always moves on a track.

The last set of words are:

cold c-o-l-d and called c-a-l-l-e-d
cold ol-ol-ol cold and called all-all-all called
cold and called

Cold is a low temperature.
For example: It is cold in this house; turn on the heat.

Called is the past tense of call. One definition of call is to telephone someone.
For example: He called his mom to ask her to pick him up.
